How do you file taxes for your practice?

In reading the instructions for Schedule C, I came across several categories of business codes that could be used for my part-time reiki practice. Since I teach and give Reiki sessions and am a Sole Proprietor, I concluded that I need a separate schedule C for each activity. I also needed a schedule C for my Reiki Awareness Day event.

Since many of you are full time practitioners with your own businesses, I wanted to know how you declare your Reiki practices. I believe that this would be a good discussion for those who are receiving payment for their services.

What business codes do you use for Reiki services? The obvious ones are educational for teaching, but there seems to be a grey area about services. I chose 62199: miscellaneous health care, but there are others. Please write in and let us know what you think.

 

After a false start and a lot of revision, Reiki Awareness Day came to Chicago, IL on November 6th 2011. We had a good turnout and our speakers were amazing! This was my 3rd event and everyone seemed to enjoy the day and the speaker presentations.
Speakers included Bernadette Doran (Equilibrium, Chicago), Richard Gubbe, International Reiki Society (Rockford), Dawn Silver, Healing Earth (Chicago), and Rick Vrenios (Wheaton). Each presented topics that related to Reiki or practitioners themselves and gave us new perspectives on what we do and why.

Richard Gubbe, RMT

Richard Gubbe is Reiki Master Teacher is the longest-standing Reiki Master Teacher in Northern Illinois.  Since earning his Reiki III Masters Level Degree in 1987, Mr. Gubbe has taught more than 2,700 students throughout the United States. He has trained more than 400 Reiki Master Teachers.

Mr. Gubbe was the first to teach Reiki at a junior college level in the United States, working as a community education instructor at Clark County Community College (NV) from 1989 through 1996.  He began teaching at Rock Valley College in 2003 and now offers the first two degrees and a Reiki Share class there. He teaches Reiki Masters privately.  In 2008, he began offering classes at Kishwaukee College in Malta.  He teaches Visualization and Preventative Health Practices classes at Rock Valley and Kiswaukee colleges.

He teaches Reiki classes privately and in small groups and offers treatments in Reiki, acupressure and deep tissue work.

Mr. Gubbe currently is the President of the Board of Directors of Reiki Energy International, a 501 (c) 3 public charity that focuses on the education, community service, research and lineage for Reiki practitioners.

Hello,
I was disappointed that only a few people registered for Reiki Awareness Day. I don’t understand the reasons, but it was quite obvious that something was wrong. Even though I had a great line up of speakers, RAD seemed doomed from the beginning. Fortunately, my Scorpio instincts and lots of Reiki energy brought some light to my situation.

After talking to the hotel, the catering manager was nice enough to offer suggestions to reschedule the event by the end of the year so I would be out $1200 to cover the minimum for the event. Yay! My speakers are intact and offered lots of ideas to improve the event so that I can attract more people.

There is a survey for the event and how to improve it and you are welcome to complete it if you live in the Chicago area and were thinking about coming to RAD. COMMUNITY is what RAD is all about. Bringing Reiki practitioners together and informing the public about this wonderful energy system is the basis of this event, and I hope that all of you think about how your community is built and thriving.
